CAMPAIGN ANALYSIS
Whilst creating the advert, GUCCI reached out and collaborated with Warner Brothers and Kubrick's ex-costume designer Malina Canonero. This shows GUCCI's willingness to pay 'homage' to Kubrick's work by gaining accurate reference knowledge. Furthermore, Kubrick's ex-designer was happy to help, proving that she believes the campaign didn't do his films a dis-service and instead, embellished the memory of his work.
The advert itself I found so serene and graceful.
Overall, the message portrayed is - all elements of GUCCI's clothing are timeless and will suit anyone's style. GUCCI's idea was to tell an enchanting story of history through prosthetics and powerful music.
Within the clothing and scenic layout there's an element of drama and theatre. This definitely puts across the passion for telling the tale as well as keeping every one of all ages intrigued.
Finally, the most beautiful element of the cinematography, was the continuity items from shot to shot. One item going off frame to come back into the next frame. Almost making it feel like a timeline that's been connected by dots. It was a small thing but, without it, the shots would have jumped from section to section with no visual focus - leaving the advert to feel messy and just confuse the viewer.
Overall, with the amount of thought and care that has gone into this production, I believe that GUCCI is paying 'homage' to Kubrick's work. Creating a gorgeous blend of old and modern society and definitely paving the way for a new style of historically iconic design.
